Have an idea for a project, but need some materials?

In addition to the materials we usually supply in the Foundry for prototyping, this Spring we’re launching a Foundry Personal Project Grant program designed to enable users to get the materials they need to start or finish their projects. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, though we tend to have many applicants at the start of semesters.

Grant Specifics

Each awarded grant will encompass up to $150 of materials purchased by the Weissman Foundry for use on an approved project. Any remaining funds are forfeited at the end of the project. A user seeking a Foundry Project Grant must meet the following criteria:

• You must fill out the application for the grant detailing your intended project, including at a minimum a detailed timeline for the project and how you’ll make use of the Foundry’s resources during your project.

• The Foundry will provide no more than $150 in materials for any one user during a single semester (summer is not included). We are unable to provide gift cards or cash, and all purchases must be made by the Foundry Staff from approved vendors.

• In addition to the monetary grant, in-person users will be provided for long term storage for the length of their project. For remote users, you’ll be responsible for your own storage.

• Any additional materials that remain after the conclusion of your project remain property of the Foundry and will be provided for use by other users.

• The project must be well documented through an appropriate medium for your project (photographs, video, audio, or other documentation means), and you agree to let the Foundry use that documentation on our website and in marketing materials.

• You must be willing to sit down for an interview with Foundry Staff, and be willing to have portions of that interview displayed publicly on our website, monthly newsletter, social media, or other channels. In lieu of an interview, you may be asked to write a blog post for our website detailing your project.

• If you are interested in a larger project, you should consider forming a group and applying for a Foundry Fellowship instead of a Foundry Personal Project Grant.
