Felt Creation Workshop

Hello, I’m Nicole Zhu, a scout at the Weissman Foundry! Last semester, I had the pleasure of hosting a two-hour Felt Creation workshop. The workshop was specifically geared towards members of the BOW community, which is made up of undergraduate students from Babson, Olin, and Wellesley colleges. The workshop was a huge success, with participants of varying skill levels coming together to learn the art of creating small felt objects by cutting and sewing felt pieces together.

The workshop began with a brief introduction to the materials and tools we would be using, including felt sheets, scissors, and sewing needles. Participants were then given the opportunity to experiment with different colors and textures of felt, and get a feel for the cutting and sewing process. The participants were taught basic stitching techniques such as whip stitch, blanket stitch, running stitch, backstitch, and chain stitch, which they could use to create the felt figures.

Here are a few photos of users working on their creations from the workshop:

Once everyone was comfortable with the sewing techniques, we moved on to creating our own felt figures. The atmosphere was lively and creative, with participants chatting and sharing tips and tricks as they worked.

As the day progressed, it was amazing to see the transformation of the felt sheets into beautiful, unique figures. From cute animals to whimsical characters, the variety of felt creations was truly impressive. It was also great to see the collaboration between students from different colleges in the BOW community.

Overall, the felting workshop at the Weissman Foundry was an incredibly fulfilling and enjoyable experience for the BOW community. The participants not only learned how to create felt figures, but also different types of sewing techniques such as whip stitch, blanket stitch, running stitch, backstitch, and chain stitch. I would like to thank the participants for their enthusiasm and creativity. I'm already looking forward to hosting another workshop in the future!
